I know it sounds crazy, but we’re already starting to see trees bloom and it’s that time again — time to plan your outdoor space. With furniture and home decor, you can never plan too soon!
#1 Treat Your Outdoor Space Like Another Room in Your Home
Just like decorating a space in your home, take stock first and determine how you want your outdoor space to function: is your space for relaxing, is it for entertaining, do you need play space, or do you need all three? Whatever your needs, make sure you understand the function of your outdoor space before you start decorating.
#2 Start with the Big Pieces
Buy quality furniture — resist buying cheaply made pieces because you’ll be buying them year after year. When it comes to fabrics, do not opt out for cheaper quality. Invest in high-performance fabrics that will stand the test of the elements.
Select an outdoor area rug to unify the space and to add texture and warmth. Just like with an indoor space, a rug helps define your space and determine where you will set your furniture.
#3 Add the Important Accessories
Accessories really add the color, the pop and the personality to any space. You can never go wrong with lots of potted flowers. Add character with outdoor accessories (monogrammed pillows, candles, bottles, bowls) and increase your outdoor room’s functionality with garden stools.
